In this completely cooperative game, each player takes on the role of one of Nevermore's students, each with a unique power and a hand of 3 cards with values between 1 and 5 in five different suits.
Each turn, the player decides whether to stay where they are or move to an adjacent location. They then place a card from their hand to their current location, without revealing the card, and replenish their hand. Each location has modifiers for the cards, valid at the moment of the attack.
Players are not allowed to say which cards they have and which they have place at each location, creating a communication barrier for the team.
After each player takes a turn, an attack token is revealed, showing where Hyde was spotted. But the attack only actually takes place on the last token revealed, which means that each round the players have more information about where the attack will actually take place.
When the attack happens, the players reveal all the cards played at the location and apply the appropriate modifiers from the location. If the total points of the cards is greater than Hyde's current attack, according to a table showing the number of players and the difficulty chosen by the group, the players have prevented the attack. Otherwise, a student has been killed.
The cards from this location are discarded and Hyde's tokens, except where attacks have already taken place, are shuffled and the game continues until Hyde has carried out attacks on all locations.
If the players manage to save a certain number of students, they win the game.
